I have been seriously considering shutting down the blog lately. Traffic has been so low its almost less than one or two people a day most days. This isn’t a pity party post, I am just looking for some feedback on what is working and what isn’t.

I just voted to keep written reviews but also want you to keep the You Tube. I enjoy both and I think I’m in the minority that doesn’t frequently visit YouTube so I enjoy when I see a post that you have a new video. I think it is just summer time. Our stats have hit a low but a lot of people are going on vacation. I know in a couple of weeks I will be out of the country for a couple of weeks and expect a big dip in stats and posting 😁 but I do enjoy writing and reading. Hope you keep both ❤️ xoxo Janet
I thought the same thing about summer as well. I am not sure if I am just looking for something to drop or what I have just be discouraged this past week. I still enjoy it either way so we shall see what else comes up! Thanks for always being so great and supporting. I will miss you when your gone!
I also think sometimes we get burnt out. I think we are up for a break soon too because blogging can be just like any other writer’s block. Maybe like a week or two of no blogging then jumping in and feeling refreshed and remembering why blogging was so much fun in the first place. I hope to blog while I’m away but I know I also want to enjoy vacation and eat my way through Spain lolol. Hope you are having a good night ❤️❤️❤️
I definitely will! We have a couple of food tours we have planned because I don’t want to miss any specialties they might have that guide books don’t mention. I swear our whole trip is revolved around food and museums lolol
Man I am with you there, they just opened up a cupcake shop literally 5 min from my house and I have gained 7lbs 😳😳😳 How?! Oh I know how those dang delicious cupcakes and the ones they “mess up” they sell 4 for $5 as opposed to their usual 1 for 3.50 so I eat all 4 in one sitting when I see them. They are just soo good. My belly and back fat hate me but my heart and taste buds adore this new place 😁
If you have good traffic on YouTube, why not keep the blog up and post your videos so people have a another way of finding content. You have over 1000 followers on the blog here so maybe the stats you are looking at aren’t right. What are you looking at – the reason I ask is because WP reports my stats wrong so I use StatCounter instead.
I will have to try the StatCounter. The follower count includes facebook and twitter followers as well for some reason. I am looking at the visitor and views page. Do you notice a big difference?
I’m WP.org so I’m hosted privately but the WP thing, I turned it off. It would show 8 visitors for the day. Then I got to StatCounter and I see 65. I read it’s not always accurate. StatCounter I like a lot. It provides a lot of insight. So does Google analytics and I have that running but I always look at Statcounter.
On .org you operate within the WordPress framework but you pay for hosting and I’m with Host Gator. You can use any wordpress compatible theme as opposed to just what wP provides. So, like mine is a 3rd party custom theme. Also, there’s thousands more plug-ins. But it’s also very difficult to manage. Like right now, my emails aren’t always going out. And technical issues are my problems. Back ups? I have to make sure my provider does that – some charge. So, it’s higher maintenance but more flexibility.
I want to say so much… But one thing is a fact and that is I would not have communicated with you if it wasn’t for your blog… I feel like I found a friend. Out of all my followers, which I have maybe 50, you are the one that I remember. I’ve had my blog for 1.5 years and I continue with it because I wanted to put something out there for my grandchildren to see and also to prove to myself that I can do this. Being public, being open, being you and doing something that you enjoy doing is what counts. If you enjoy it, keep on going. it should not matter what people think or how many people visit your site, how many companies send you items to review, what should matter is “you”, not sure if any of this makes sense to you, I just want to say “I enjoy both your blog and your videos”.
Thanks Betty. I know exactly what your saying. I do still enjoy it and this wasn’t meant to sound like a pity party even though I know it does seem that way. I’m happy to have found you and a few other internet friends as well. I think it’s just discouraging me a few other areas of my life are so busy right now I can’t but up quality and maybe I am just feeling a bit drained. Or j had unrealistic expectations coming into it. Who knows! I appreciate your support!
It’s nice to have a blog to refer back to. Even Marlena with Makeup Geek has both. I think it’s summer. I honestly post on Mondays because there is a better change to be read while someone is at their desk at work than on the weekends when people will be out enjoying the summer. Stay motivated!! 🙂
You should do whatever makes you happy. I follow you on both and enjoy aspects of both as well and would therefore like to see you keep both (how selfish of me, lol), but if you don’t feel you are getting enough out of your blog then don’t keep it. Followers come and go. It’s your life and what you spend it doing that ultimately matters to you most of all 🙂
Personally I say keep both! why was that not an option! most days I prefer written reviews but I also enjoy videos when I make the time to watch them. If it were one or the other I wouldn’t enjoy it as much!

I agree. As much as it doesn’t seem worth it sometimes it’s a good outlet for me and keeps my hands busy.
