Guys. GUYS. There is something you need to know, and understand and completely recognize is a thing now. Drugstore eye shadow is good. It’s cheaper and does the job, and for the most part you can feel confident it won’t burn off your eyelids.
I have always liked the Mad for Matte palette, and have been waiting for Summer Breeze to finally come to Canada, so I wasn’t hit with the shipping costs and customs for Canada from ordering from https://www.elfcosmetics.com
These two palettes are probably the best you can get in a matte formulation for under $15, and at the drugstore. I have brought both in for this post so you have a comparison to work with, and can decide for yourself which one (or both) will work for you in the end. Mad for Matte is slightly cooler toned, and Summer Breeze is working with more warm shades. I personally prefer to have them both because they are fantastic supporting palettes, as well as on their own.
Summer Breeze Claims: This Mad for Matte Eyeshadow Palette in Summer Breeze contains ten, perfectly curated matte eyeshadows for achieving a bold or subtle everyday look. These complementing shades are ideal for shading, highlighting, and defining the eyes. Use the satin matte shadows as liner, on the lid, and in the crease of the eye for an expertly contoured and blended
Ingredients: Talc, Nylon-12, Magnesium Stearate, Silica, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Dimethicone, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol. MAY CONTAIN: Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Red 40 Lake (CI 16035), Ultramarines (CI 77007), DC Black 2 (CI 77266), Manganese Violet (CI 77742)
My Thoughts
I have had the first palette for awhile, and reach for it a ton, so I am not surprised at how much I like the Summer Breeze Version. I am especially drawn to the dark purple and burnt orange, which have both made it onto my eyes multiple times this week. It’s rare I will do all matte looks but this week has been an exception. Although some of the shades can feel a bit chalky all in all I do actually find that does not transfer in application to the eyes.
The swatches were done over the hard candy primer, and done with a brush and one swipe. I have somewhat lost my words today, but this is totally worth the buy if you are into matte shadows, and some warmer shades.
Something else I noticed was how similar this was to the Wet N Wild palette I purchased recently. Although not identical I would consider this a dupe, and would much rather reach for the Summer Breeze by E.L.F than Rose in the Air by Wet N Wild. It’s much better quality and the shades are much more saturated on the eye.

Hello ,
I saw your tweet about animals and thought I will check your website. I like it!
I love pets. I have two beautiful thai cats called Tammy(female) and Yommo(male). Yommo is 1 year older than Tommy. He acts like a bigger brother for her. 🙂
I have even created an Instagram account for them ( https://www.instagram.com/tayo_home/ ) and probably soon they will have more followers than me (kinda funny).
I have subscribed to your newsletter. 🙂
Keep up the good work on your blog.

I still want the original elf Mad for Matte palette. I just picked up the Wet n Wild Rose in the Air palette – can’t wait to play with it. Did you buy the elf at Walmart in store or online?

Walmart, Did you want me to grab you the original and send it over? I prefer the summer breeze for sure, I was sort of disappointed with the rose in the air in the end

Thanks for the offer! But it will be too much of a hassle / cost. I need to make a trek to Walmart – haven’t been in awhile!

The warm tones look really nice, the Elf palette does indeed look similar to the Wet N’ Wild palette 🙂
P.S. Did you change your blog theme/layout? Looks good!

Yes I did but not intentionally! It messed up at some point today and then when I went to go fix it I decided to change it 🙂
